The Learning Assistance/Peer Tutoring Center is located on the second floor of the Meyerhoeffer Building.
In the Learning Assistance Center you will find the English Help Desk. It is staffed by student and faculty
tutors and offers a "drop-in" tutoring service for students who would like help with writing assignments
for English and other college classes. The service is free.
You don't need an appointment to visit with a tutor, but you might have to wait if the tutor is busy.
Tutoring sessions last 15 to 20 minutes. Be sure to bring your assignment and your essay, and be sure to
allow yourself plenty of time to work with the tutor's feedback. That is, don't try to visit an hour or two
before your paper is due; instead, come one or two days before your paper needs to be finished for class.
Your visit with the tutor will be most beneficial if you come with specific questions and concerns,
and you will benefit if you visit a variety of tutors during the semester, instead of always working with the same one.
Tutors will not proofread your paper, although they can help you to find and fix mistakes.
You can pick up a current schedule of English Help Desk hours and tutors at the LAC, open from 8:30 to 4:30, Monday
through Friday.
