The English, Languages, and Philosophy Studies Department provides a broad range of courses designed
to meet the needs of both full-time and part-time students. The English faculty offer those composition
courses required in transfer programs. A wide variety of second-year courses is also offered:
genre studies courses, technical writing, and American and British literature courses that are necessary
for English and education majors. The department also offers three journalism courses: News Writing,
Editing and Layout, and Newspaper Staff. The Foreign Languages faculty provide elementary and
second-year courses in French, Spanish, and Japanese. These courses concentrate on oral and written language skills
and on the civilization and culture of the country.
